Experts are forecasting that the cost of photovoltaics will continue to decrease, making them the most important energy source worldwide – a goal Bernhard Voll is passionately pursuing. He travels all over the world for SMA, making large-scale PV farms even more efficient and reliable.

Seals, rust protection, flawless insulation: Reinhard Lehmann, an analysis engineer, has been focusing his efforts for eight years now on helping SMA equip Sunny Central inverters for even more effective outdoor use. One of his responsibilities is ensuring that these high-performance central inverters are fit for outdoor use—at all times, anywhere in the world.
On an exposed area near the autobahn 7, the SMA ground-based plant on Sandershäuser Berg can be viewed far and wide in the North Hessian community of Niestetal. In operation for ten months, the PV power plant has been supplying clean solar energy to the adjacent Solar Factory 3 as well as other corporate buildings of SMA Solar Technology AG in Niestetal.

A truck carrying two Sunny Centrals at production goods issue is certainly not an odd sight. However, these two central inverters are on a special mission. They are on their way to Munich, or, more precisely, to the Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG) – a German technology and science service center which carries out tests and analyses.
At the climate and stress laboratory the newly developed products are tested for reliability under extreme climatic conditions. SMA customers do not need to fear inverter damage due to freezing or overheating. We test the temperature limits for each new product.
