Sue Roaf is a solar pioneer. Despite facing opposition from the energy industry at the time and being told by the Government that it would never work “because there is not enough sunshine in Britain”, she has the first grid connected roof integrated PV in the UK in 1995. She has been at the heart of the solar revolution over the last 20 years. In 2016, she decided to upgrade her PV-installation which still worked perfectly to include storage. We sat down with her to ask a few questions.
As an SMA employee, I was able to familiarize myself with the new Sunny Boy Smart Energy in the test phase. Many of you are probably wondering why you should invest in an inverter with a battery, so I would like to share my experience and take you through a few questions that could help you make a decision.
The Sunny Boy Smart Energy combines a PV inverter and a lithium-ion battery and is the heart of the SMA Integrated Storage System solution for simple, intelligent energy management. In an interview, Product Manager Thomas Thierschmidt describes to me this innovative combination solution, its use and benefits—and some of the challenges the engineers had to overcome with this project.
From June 4-6, 2014, Munich became the center of the solar industry. 44,000 visitors flocked to Intersolar Europe to learn more about the latest solar innovations. Follow us through 3 days of Intersolar and experience the show through the eyes of SMA. Didn’t get to make the trip over? Don’t worry, we captured the most important moments and our personal highlights for you on video.
