A faulty or nonexistent connection from the inverter or Sunny Home Manager to Sunny Portal can occur for several reasons. In this post, we present a brief tutorial to help you restore the connection quickly. If something goes wrong, simply follow the steps below. It’s a good idea to rule out these potential sources of errors before calling the SMA Service Line.
Since the last update of Sunny Design (version 3.2), some of our customers have not been able to log into Sunny Design via the Windows desktop application using their e-mail address and password. The following error message appears:
Turning crisis into opportunity: Despite the fact that the installation of new PV systems has dropped by several megawatts, a new and promising trend known as revamping has developed in Italy.
Danny Büder is a service technician of the SMA Global Support team in Niestetal. For his job, he travels around the world. In fact, over the past two years alone, the 29-year-old has been to 13 different countries. With Toni Berger and employees from other SMA subsidiaries, Danny recently brought Japan’s largest PV power plant into operation. Over a cup of coffee he tells me how the work went in the southern Japanese city of Kagoshima, and what the SMA team encountered in the way of unusual features and challenges.
In January 2012, while the World Future Energy Summit was held in Abu Dhabi, Dubai presented its plans for a 1,000 Megawatt solar project, named the “Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum plant“. Those plans were revealed only a few meters away from SMA booth which made us very excited about this vision. When I had a closer look at the model I wondered who would realize it, when this would be done and if they had already selected a location. One year later, phase one of this vision started becoming a reality as the 13 MW Plant was ready to be commissioned with SMA inverters.
Inverter manufacturers recommend maintaining a certain amount of clearance around the units to ensure adequate air circulation. This helps prevent derating, which is when performance is reduced to protect the electronic components. It is important for installers to know and follow the recommended clearances whenever possible so as to avoid additional expenditures for ventilation systems.
A big challenge was requested to SMA Service technicians: Alessandro Conti from Italy and six Service employees from Germany were in charge of commissioning the largest PV power plant in Africa – in only 10 days. It was really hot and the work was challenging under such unfavorable access conditions. However, in the end, everything worked out well. Alessandro tells us his experience, ranging from the exciting country and its culture to a fantastic team.
SMA has a large product range and offers the right inverter for every plant. That’s why it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the device type and conditions of the PV plant before each inverter replacement: Does the defective inverter have optional accessories that must be carried over to the replacement inverter? Do parameter changes have to be made to comply with the regulations of the energy suppliers?
Together with Marco Flatzek, customer consultant in our SMA Service Line, I have created an overview as a reminder for installers when replacing different inverter types.
Service team members at SMA Australia have lost count of the number of times they have answered a call and been told by the customer that they only want to speak to Patty. Usually, they can offer support themselves and the customer realises that they too have a high level of competence, but it is a habit that stems from the early days of SMA Australia.
