Since the start of this year, SMA France has taken on responsibility for sales in the French-speaking countries of West Africa. After all, France and the Francophone African countries have close historical ties and maintain extensive trade relationships. Furthermore, West Africa lies in the earth’s sun belt and benefits from excellent solar irradiation, and so it made sense for the French Solar Academy to hold various technical workshops and a PV conference in this region.
Tokelau is one of the world’s most remote countries – and the first to generate its energy supply using only photovoltaics. We spoke with Alexander Kaemmerer of SMA Australia, who spent almost a month in Tokelau supporting the project, training Tokelauans to operate the plants and demonstrating to the clients how to proceed with the rest of the commissioning.
He is the photovoltaics pioneer from North Hesse, Germany: SMA cofounder and chairman of the supervisory board, Günther Cramer, has been awarded the Deutschen Umweltpreis for his life’s work. The award was presented by German President Joachim Gauck in Berlin on October 28, 2012.
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations and highly recommend the television report broadcasted by the German TV station 3sat.
You hear the birds chirping, there's a rustling in the brush and suddenly something quietly and swiftly rushes past you. You take a few more steps – oh no – a large beast stands before you on the forest trail.

Anucha Chinkrajangjit, or ‘Long’ as he is known to his colleagues, is a service engineer in SMA’s Service department. He is responsible for after-sales service for both PPS and MPS markets. Before joining SMA, Anucha did not know about the company or its products. After joining SMA, he was sent for training at the head office in Germany. It was a great opportunity for the Thailand branch’s Service team to receive two months training. Anucha started off by making friends with other Thai staff and learned about the new culture, adjusted to the food and lifestyle differences, especially the long working hours in Germany.
Is the photovoltaic market still an important and viable one for the future? What is SMA doing to compete with China? What technologies will SMA use to become profitable again? In light of the July to September 2012 financial report, we asked CEO Pierre-Pascal Urbon what he expects for the current year. Here you will find his thoughts on prospects for the photovoltaic market and SMA’s strategy and further business development.
To be honest, up until the last minute I really didn't know which special form of percussive art awaited me this evening. The program read, „Cycle Percussion Berlin,“ with artists Mario Würzebesser, Julius Heise, Raphael Meinhart under the direction of Shengnan Hu.
SMA has a large product range and offers the right inverter for every plant. That’s why it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the device type and conditions of the PV plant before each inverter replacement: Does the defective inverter have optional accessories that must be carried over to the replacement inverter? Do parameter changes have to be made to comply with the regulations of the energy suppliers?
Together with Marco Flatzek, customer consultant in our SMA Service Line, I have created an overview as a reminder for installers when replacing different inverter types.
