The countdown starts

Graduation was right around the corner, and then – what next? Which was the right path for me? Apprenticeship? University? Both?

In my last year at school in Fritzlar, I made my way through the jungle of options, trying to finally sort out this tangle of questions.
After frantically searching around on the Internet and talking with friends and relatives, the idea came to me of doing some kind of internship. That brought me to the job portal of SMA Solar Technology AG, which has a subsidiary right near where I live. The attractive design of the pages, the company’s international focus, and the whole corporate structure appealed to me right away, and before I knew it, I found myself…

Apprentices’ Grill Party 2011

time to lunch!

time to lunch!

On August 18, it was finally time once again for the annual SMA apprentices’ grill party.
Approximately 150 apprentices from all professions gathered on Friday to spend a nice evening together. The focus was not only on the great food but also on socializing and having fun.
This year’s fantastic event was held on SMA company grounds between Buildings 1, 3, and 4, as well as under the canopy of Building 2. You just combine them.

In the 1960s, some of the buildings from the Wilhelminian era were supposed to be torn down to make way for “new modern construction”. Borrowing from the house dwellings in some large cities, many apartment-sharing communities sprang up at this time in the Vorderer Westen, where some members of the SMA Executive Board could be found.

“Think about Your Bellybutton”: Checking out “Active Break”

kurs

It’s 1:20 on a Wednesday afternoon. I’m standing in the basement of Building 7, where SMA has its own fitness center. Actually, I’m here to take a class called “Active Break”, but there’s nobody else in sight. Oh well, the class isn’t supposed to start until 1:30. That means I have time to look around a little. They’ve fixed the place up nicely. The rooms are bright and inviting. I see a few endurance training machines (i.e., treadmills, exercise bikes, the usual), changing rooms and a massage room. Other people are starting to trickle in. By simply taking off their shoes they’re ready to go because classes during the workday don’t require any special athletic attire.
